Rules + Rules Placement + Pet Lookup + Advertising
Before you even think of advertising your foster pet or adding him to the listings you must determine what kind of parent you want for your foster. To do that you need rules and requirements.
Rules and Requirements
It is every foster parents prerogative to create his or her own rules. To see examples visit this thread. Here is an explanation of the most common:
Age: Most parents specify that the prospective parent be at least 4 months old. This means that they must have been a Neopian for 4 or more months. The foster parent says this primarily so that he or she knows that the prospective parent is a stayer rather than someone who signs up and quits Neopets in a very short time. Also, Neopets has a specific rule in place regarding what pets can be adopted through pound or safe transfers, and accounts under 4 months old may not be able to adopt a painted foster pet or pets with a level of 2 or more.
Pledge of Good Ownership: It is a good idea to make parents takes the Pledge. It is a slight effort on their part to put the complete Pledge in their lookup or shop but its better than no effort at all.
Adoption FAQ: Prospective parents should read the Adoption FAQ so that they understand how the transfer takes place, and what options are available when it comes to transferring. Things can go seriously pear-shaped at the pound and advance knowledge and understanding is essential.
Where do I put the Rules?
You can put your rules and requirements in any of the following places:
Your foster pets lookup
We require that you have something on your pets lookup that indicates your pet is up for adoption. The first place a prospective parent looks is the pets' lookup and it will certainly improve your pets chance of being chosen if there is something there. Many foster parents put the following info on their pets lookup:
- A note stating the pet is up for adoption (required)

- A short paragraph about your pets personality or the home you feel he would be best suited to. (optional)

- The number of applications you have received for that pet (optional)

- If you have chosen a new home for your pet. This tells prospective applicants that even though your pet is still in TNOs listings you are no long accepting applications. (optional)

- Disclaimer stating that you cannot guarantee that they will get the pet(optional)

Advertising
Aside from registering your pet (more in Part Five) so potential owners can visit them, there are many ways of getting your pet noticed. You can:
- Post in the Adoptee Ads forum

- Mention them in your lookup with a message like "Joukii is up for adoption, please neomail me if you're interested!" and add a Foster Badge

- Post in the Neopian Pound Chat (but don't spam!) Advertising on the Neoboards can be frustrating, so don't be discouraged, and please don't lose your temper with the folks you may encounter there. ^_^

- If you're a good artist, you can even enter them in the Neopets Beauty Contest
