As mentioned before the Haiku Contest and Rhyme Contest have been combined into one contest. Every two weeks the task will alternate between writing a haiku or writing a poem.
Rules | Cast your vote!
For each new round, I will provide one of the following:
a title
the first line of the poem/rhyme/haiku
a picture
Depending on which one of the above I supply, all you have to do is take the first line and continue the poem/haiku, or write a completely original poem, rhyme or haiku based on the title or picture.
For example: If I give you the title "Adam and Donna" you can write a poem/haiku about Adam and Donna ^_^ If I give you a picture of pirates you could write about Pirates or Lost Treasure or Davy Jones' Locker or anything you can think of related to the picture. If I give you the line "One day we went to the Sea Shore" you must continue as if that were the first line of your poem/haiku.
Then, after the round is over I will post the entries in order that everyone can vote for their favorite. (Note: I may not be able to post all entries if I get too many) This contest is for TNO members only!
Please use the following guidelines when writing your poem/haiku. Failure to follow them may result in your poem/haiku's disqualification:
Your poem/haiku MUST relate the picture, title, or line of text given. If I give the first line of a poem/haiku, your poem/haiku MUST begin with this line.
Use proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.
Your poem/haiku should be divided up properly into separate lines, so make sure you use spacing (i.e. do not submit a big block of text, or I won't know where one line ends and another begins).
If this is a rhyming round, your poem MUST have some sort of rhyme scheme. I know that not all poetry rhymes, but after all, this is called the Rhyme Contest.
If this is a haiku round, your haiku MUST follow the standard 5-7-5 format. More information can be found below.
Submit ONLY ONE poem/haiku per round.
What is a haiku?
A haiku is an unrhymed poem in three lines containing 5, then 7, then 5 syllables. Observe:
First autumn morning:
the mirror I stare into
shows my father's face.
