I know everyone was just anxiously awaiting the repost of the Forum Rules
Though few want to see a pile of rules, some are necessary to keep forum posts manageable and informative. The following is a list of our basic rules, which will be enforced by your friendly neighborhood Spam Busters
The Spam Busters are normal forum members who started out as newbies themselves and want to make sure the Forums are a fun and safe place to chat. If you receive a warning from one of them, please know that it is intended to help you. You won't be removed for making a mistake; it takes something serious like scamming or blatant rule-breaking to get banned from the guild and/or forums, which is quite rare.
That said, please read the following rules. If you're confused about one of them, contact a Spam Buster - they are always willing to explain the reasoning behind a particular rule.
Spamming: SPAM is an acronym for Short, Pointless or Annoying Messages. It can involve posting:
+ Messages unrelated to the current topic.
+ On old, outdated topics that have already been resolved. To be avoided unless a poster has something new and different to add to the discussion.
+ A new topic instead of using a Sticky that was created specifically for the topic. (eg. Lab Ray Zaps, Promotion Celebrations)
+ Short messages less than a sentence long that contribute nothing new to the topic under discussion. (eg. replying with only an lol, haha, hi, etc.)
+ To chat with only one other person; this is better suited to an instant messenger client or private message.
+ Deliberate double-posts, where a member replies to their own topic. Please use the Edit () button whenever possible.
+ A message whose sole purpose is to correct someone else's post. This is the job of a Spam Buster - if you see someone posting spam, please use the Report button.
Language & Respect: Please respect other members. If a five-year-old child or eighty-year-old grandmother shouldn't read it, it's probably not appropriate for this forum. Feel free to ask Council or a Spam Buster if you are unsure of a post, or if you find a post that is offensive to you.
+ You may disagree with another member's opinion in a reasonable manner, but please do not insult or attack them.
+ If a conflict with another member cannot be resolved, please contact one of the Council or Spam Busters for assistance.
Absolutely no:
+ Profanity.
+ Religious discussion. Saying you'll pray for someone is alright, just no debates about religion or how one practices theirs.
+ Political discussion.
+ Promotion or graphic depiction of violence.
+ Requests for assistance in illegal activities.
+ Offensive or Adult Topics.
Remember again, the basic rule of content for the forums: If a five-year-old child or eighty-year-old grandmother shouldn't read it, it's probably not appropriate for this forum.
Linking to Other Sites:
Linking to other sites is generally okay, with the following exceptions:
+ No R-rated sites. The site must be PG or less.
+ No active advertisement of other Neopets guilds. You can have a link in your signature, but don't create a thread saying "Join my guild!"
+ No advertising of other adoption Neopets guild whatsoever. You can reference such sites, but no advertising.
+ No encouraging TNO members to leave our guild to join yours.
Miscellaneous:
+ No using graphics/images created by others without proper credit.
+ No advertising on or otherwise using the TNO forums for real life monetary profit.
The following are not at all acceptable in TNO and could result in being immediately banned from the guild and forums if proof is provided.
+ Scamming.
+ Chain Letters.
+ Selling of pets or graphics.
+ Harrassing neopets players that have adopted a pet being transferred. There are no guarantees.
While we have tried to cover most common problems in the Forums, there may be areas we've missed. Please PM a Council Member if you have a suggestion for adding to or modifying the above Rules. Happy Chatting!
